Online marketing is a must in this massive digital era. This kind of marketing allows the marketer to reach a wider audience from different cities or even countries.

That is why every marketer needs to understand online marketing deeply. Implementing the right and solid online marketing will let you reach the right audience and convert them into customers.

Online Marketing Definition

Online marketing is every marketing effort that is done via the internet to get more audience and customers and spread important messages about a product or service.

Online marketing is currently used not only by large businesses but also by small businesses and even individual freelancers to craft a strong personal branding.

Benefits of Online Marketing

There are many benefits of marketing the products or services online.

1. Providing a Wider Access

Online marketing allows everyone to sell and purchase from everywhere without needing to fly across the sea to get the product or service.

2. Reduce Costs

Doing this also reduces operating costs, such as rent, electricity, etc. Besides that, online marketing requires digital advertising which tends to be cheaper than conventional advertising, such as billboard installation.

3. Connect People

With this kind of marketing, the buyer and the seller can stay connected 24/7. A medium-large business commonly provides 24-hour customer service to serve customers online, whether it is via social media, websites, or messenger applications such as WhatsApp. This will increase customer satisfaction.

4. Get Instant Feedback

An online business can also get instant feedback via Google Review, WhatsApp, or social media. Ensure to read every feedback for improvement.

7 Online Marketing Strategies

As it gives a wider access and audience, online marketing strategy is much more complex than offline marketing strategy. It must be adapted to the products or services that are being promoted.

Before choosing the right strategy, remember to always focus on the customers. Yes, customer-oriented is a must to satisfy them. Ask about their experience while using a product or service and their preferences as well.

Besides that, also ask (and take note) how they found that product or service, why they were interested, and what made them decide to purchase it. This will give the marketer a better understanding of the customers. Now let us dive into the strategies.

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is a practice of organically optimizing a website to be ranked as the first page on search engines like Bing and Google as well as gain high traffic.

To bring more traffic to a website, the website owner must craft and implement both off-page and on-page SEO strategy, including writing structured SEO-friendly articles with the right keywords.

2. Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

SEM is similar to SEO, but it is a paid (not organic) strategy to bring a website to the first rank on search engines. This will target a more specific and relevant audience with the business.

3. Affiliate Marketing

In affiliate marketing, the marketer pays someone a small commission to promote the products or services for every sale. So far this is the best approach for brands that operate in the retail industry.

4. Social Media Marketing

As the number of users increases, social media marketing can help boost brand awareness. This includes posting content on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

It can be used to engage with followers through comments and messages. Give a proper response to make them feel comfortable. This way, the brand can connect with its followers on a more personal level.

The brand can also be promoted through social media advertising. Ensure to choose the right target audience based on demographic aspects.

5. Influencer Marketing

As the size of the influencer market has more than tripled since 2024, in 2024, it was estimated to reach 24 billion U.S. dollars. That is why brands continue to use this marketing strategy.

Working with influencers allows any brands to promote their products or services to the influencers’ followers. This can boost awareness and trust in the brand.

On social media, the brand can ask the influencers to post collaboration posts and takeovers. Besides social media, the influencers can create blog posts and even be a speakers on a PR event held by the brand.

6. Referral Program

In the referral program, the customers can refer their codes to their friends or relatives to get a reward. This allows the business to get more customers from the existing customers.

7. Google Business

Activate Google Business to inform the audience about operating hours, complete address, website, and contact details.

Other than that, the customers can also leave reviews about the business. This helps businesses improve to be a better one. The business owner or the marketer can also respond to the reviews to make the customers feel appreciated.

Choose one or more strategies that suit your business. You can combine some strategies to raise awareness, build interest, and lead the audience to decide and take action.

For example:

- To raise awareness: social media marketing, influencer marketing, and SEM.

- To build interest: SEO and affiliate marketing.

- To help the audience decide: respond to the reviews on Google Business and post them on social media.

- To make them take action: referral program and promotion through social media.

Choosing, building, and implementing the right online marketing strategy will help your business get more customers and revenue. So, take your time and prepare enough budget to craft the right strategy.
