While the festival spans 21 countries, it also includes contributions from emerging Australian
voices – including Eric Perriard, an Adelaide-based filmmaker whose
short Stations screens on 24 Oct, and student works presented in the
“New Voices” program through Swinburne University of Technology, MINA’s
2025 education partner.

Founded in 2011, MINA is the longest-running smartphone film festival in
the Southern Hemisphere. The 2025 edition saw a 97% increase in submissions,
reflecting growing momentum in mobile-first creative work.

SmallRig joins as
co-presenter this year, bringing its expertise in mobile filming rigs and
global creator support. As part of this collaboration, SmallRig is launching
the Mobile Filmmaking Co-Creation Initiative – a global platform
inviting creators to contribute to tool development, promote standout
mobile-shot films, and collaborate on original projects. The initiative aims to
expand access to equipment, exposure, and creative partnerships across more
than 160 countries.

Visitors can step inside historic homes, board vintage trains, or uncover the secrets of Victoria’s gold rush past.&nbsp;Festival highlights include&nbsp;The Alchemy of Gold&nbsp;forum in Campbells Creek from 16 to 18 May, which will examine how the 1850s gold rush transformed Victoria. Historians, experts, and community members will explore the profound and lasting impact of this era on the state’s identity.&nbsp;In Geelong,&nbsp;The Heights Heritage Skills &amp; Traditions Autumn Fair&nbsp;on 26 April offers visitors a chance to step back in time with heritage gardens, traditional crafts, and hands-on demonstrations that showcase skills passed down through generations.&nbsp;In Bendigo, families can enjoy&nbsp;The Heritage Fiesta&nbsp;on 17 May, with free entry to iconic sites including the Central Deborah Gold Mine, Bendigo Tramways, and the Bendigo Joss House Temple.&nbsp;At&nbsp;Melbourne’s Trades Hall, special heritage tours on 21 and 28 April and 5 and 12 May invite visitors to walk in the footsteps of labour movement icons such as John Curtin, Zelda D’Aprano and Bob Hawke, while learning about more than 150 years of workers’ rights history.&nbsp;Visitors can also gain exclusive access to behind-the-scenes Tours of the&nbsp;See Yup Temple&nbsp;in South Melbourne on 4 May. Sydney’s newest world class marketplace, Hay St Market at Paddy’s, has been officially opened today by Prime Minister Anthony&nbsp;Albanese, NSW Premier Chris Minns, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, and Minister for Tourism Steve Kamper, alongside key dignitaries and industry leaders.

Marking a new chapter for the iconic Paddy’s Markets, the $20 million Hay St Market development spans 3,000 square metres, has created more than 300 local jobs, brings together over 48 traders offering 25 diverse cuisines and an extensive selection of fresh produce, food, beverage and specialty retail.&nbsp;

Paddy’s Markets is already a major attraction in Sydney with over 5 million visitors annually. Since first opening its doors at the end of March 2025, Hay St Market at Paddy’s has seen a large number of locals and tourists flock to this exciting new destination, which is expected to increase tourism to the City of Sydney and to Sydney’s Haymarket.&nbsp;

The Hay St Market concept was created by Doltone Hospitality Group following multiple years of research into the world’s best markets and taking inspiration from some of the most renowned globally including Borough Market in London, Lau Pau Sat in Singapore, the bustling food markets in Barcelona and Chelsea Market in New York City.&nbsp;

Star appearances will include Farmer Dave Graham, a festival favourite known for his engaging demonstrations, and Lara Shannon, renowned from TV’s Pooches at Play, offering expert dog training insights.

After a popular debut at the Melbourne event last year, social media sensation Jamie the Dog Trainer will be a must-see guest in both Melbourne and Sydney, while ABC TV’s Muster Dogs stars Marlene &amp; Hudson and Jack &amp; Pesto will be live on stage at select events, and Brodie Young will return as MC.

"Passionella" is based on Jules Feiffer's offbeat Cinderella-story about a chimney sweep whose dreams of being a "glamorous movie star" nearly sabotage her one chance for true love.
