Today, social media marketing has become a popular digital marketing method because it allows you to reach a wider yet specific audience. Therefore, you need to understand how to manage social media to achieve your business goals.   

With social media, you can build awareness, generate more leads, increase sales, and retain customers. However, there are many aspects to creating, implementing and managing the best social media strategy.       

Social Media Management Definition   

Social media management is the process of managing all the social media you have. It includes analyzing the audience, setting goals, creating a social media strategy, implementing the strategy, and reviewing the strategy. 

Social media management requires accurate data analysis and amazing creativity as the trends in social media are actively changing. The algorithm update can also be shocking. Therefore, social media managers need to be highly adaptable and creative.       

More and more social media can be confusing. Instead of posting content equally across all social media, focus on 1 social media and treat the others as complementary. 

Let's say you have a B2B business. It's best for you to focus on LinkedIn and YouTube, but you can still use Instagram to create a brand image, just in case your target audience opens Instagram in their spare time.    

The Importance of Social Media Management 

Any business can use social media to successfully achieve its goals, from raising awareness to increasing sales and customer loyalty. These are the benefits of proper social media management: 

1. A Wider Audience

Social media allows you to reach a global audience. Make sure you post engaging and informative content using the right and interesting feature.   

2. Cost-effective

Social media is an inexpensive digital marketing method. Almost everything from signing up, posting content to engaging with the audience is free. 

Other than that, you can also advertise with reasonable prices for the wider and right audience.   

3. Customer Retention  

Many businesses have tried so hard to build awareness and increase sales. However, businesses sometimes forget about customer retention.   

This is about customer loyalty, so it needs engagement and good relationships, which can be easily done through social media. To increase engagement, you can post content that generates comments. This can be QnA, promotions, news updates or simple questions related to your customers.   

How to Do Social Media Management? 

After understanding the importance of social media management, here is how to do it:   

1. Research the target audience   

Whether you are selling a product or a service, you need to know your target audience specifically to develop a social media strategy. After knowing your target audience, do research on their interest and preferred social media.  

2. Develop the strategy 

Next, develop a strategy with your team to get more creative ideas. However, being too creative will result in a never-ending brainstorming session. So narrow down the ideas by considering the following factors:   

Goals: Define your goal(s), to build brand awareness, create a good image to get more investors, build brand loyalty, or some other goals. 

Industry: Learn about your industry and try to fill the gap or solve the problem there. 

Brand Voice: Establish your brand personality to determine how your brand will influence the audience.   

3. Implement the Strategy 

After developing the strategy, the next step is implementation. It starts from creating the content to publishing the content. 

This is not an easy task because there are 3 things that need to be done: the copy (text on the design or video), the design or video, and the caption. Once it is done, you or a person in charge (PIC) has to check the whole quality.   

To organize this, create a monthly content calendar in a spreadsheet that includes posting schedules and content references. You can also include other details such as platform, size, PIC, and more.   

4. Monitor Social Media Performance 

Once you have created and posted content, you need to monitor and evaluate its performance. This will let you know which content is engaging and which is not. So you can create more engaging content next month. You can monitor with different tools like Zoho, Sprousocial, and Socianator.

The goals of social media marketing can vary, such as building brand awareness, creating a good image, increasing sales, building customer loyalty, and many more. 

To achieve these goals, you need the right social media management as mentioned above. It is not only about being creative but also about being orderly and organized about the schedule and thoroughly monitoring the performance.
